Our seasonal cottage is situated in a lovely, wooded area near the quiet Schoodic section of Acadia National Park, in the beautiful State of Maine.

Things are coming along nicely!

Our weather has finally changed for the better and we're seeing lots of sunshine lately.  Bob and Jeff were able to put the shingles on both sides of the cottage and started a few other outdoor projects, as well.

The front porch and the deck are still works in progress.

We made several trips to Bangor for the kitchen cabinets, the appliances were delivered and the countertops have been measured and ordered.  Unfortunately, it could take a while to get them due to several factors, but we are keeping fingers crossed!!

Bob has both bathrooms, tiled and grouted.

Bad picture, but it really looks great, in person!  LOL!

So, as nicely as things are progressing, there is still much to do and I am so enjoying learning how a home is built. I've also begun to do my research in to how VRBO works.  It's all a real learning process and my former occupations as banker and innkeeper are coming in handy!

We hope everyone is looking forward to a tasty, fun filled Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Stay tuned!  😃

Slowly getting there!

Wow, how quickly the summer is flashing by us!  It's been a strange weather year as we haven't really seen our usual beautiful summer weather; July was full of soggy, foggy weather and August didn't fare much better with all the rain we had.  September seems to be getting somewhat better, and hopefully, progress on the cottage will continue.

Bob and I did manage to get away for a couple of days for a relaxing weekend with friends in Wells, Maine.  Being early risers, Bob and I had a nice, sunrise walk on the beach before the other "tourists" woke up.

One of the things I like to collect is rocks to remind me of wonderful moments in my life, and I found this beautiful memento on our stroll through the sand!

Bob and Jeff have been quite busy with clients needing work done, so they have been working on the cottage on rainy days.  They have managed to get the flooring done in the loft and downstairs in the great room, tiling in the master bath is underway and the appliances have been delivered.

In the meantime, I've spent some time looking at furnishings to buy when the time comes.

This cute, little table caught my eye!

Ah well, I can dream right now, but there is still much work to do!  In the meantime, I hope everyone is enjoying these last few weeks of summer and looking forward to a colorful autumn!

Stay tuned for more news!  😄

Whoo Hoo! Floors are almost in!

After letting the flooring sit in the cottage for a few days to let them become "accustomed" to the surrounding air, the installation began in the bedrooms.

Bob and I are very pleased with our choice of hardwood and the color is beautiful and light, giving the room brightness despite being surrounded by lots of shady trees.

Bob and Jeff make a great team!

Can't wait to see what comes next!!

Stay tuned for more fun!  😄

Moving Right Along!

Things have been moving a bit slower than usual as our July weather has been filled with soggy, foggy days and the nice, sunny days were spent catching up with other clients.  Such is life!

The ceilings in the loft and Great Room have been installed with beautiful pine Vmatch, the lighting and fans are in as well, and it looks spectacular!  The high ceilings make the spaces look so much larger.

The painting has been done in all the rooms and Bob has most of the window trimming done.

The view from the loft is really nice and I can just imagine sitting up there relaxing with a good book or taking a nice, peaceful nap.

Bob and I made a trip to Brewer to pick out the flooring and, we agreed on the one we liked best - hardwood, not too dark and not too light - just right!

When I stopped by this morning for my "inspection", Bob and Jeff were in the beginning process of installing the flooring and it was looking very nice.  However, I declined to take any pictures as they were hard at work and I didn't want to disturb them! 😊

The bathrooms are coming along, as well.  The other one will be getting tiled soon and then the plumbers can come back to do the remaining installations.

So, things are getting done, slowly, but surely.  We are all hoping that August will be sunny and bright, not only for us, but for the tourists who have been missing out on so much of the beauty of Acadia National Park this July.

Anyway, I hope to blog more often, but life is so busy up here right now.  Wishing you all a beautiful month of August!

Stay tuned for more, hopefully coming soon! 👍😊

Interior work continues

We are very blessed living here in Downeast Maine.  Here's a short clip showing the beauty of our peninsula and the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park.

In the meantime, work on the cottage continues with most of the work being done on the interior.  We had doors delivered in anticipation of getting them installed soon.

Bob has tiled and grouted one of the bathrooms and it's ready to install the toilet and vanity as soon as the plumbers can get here again.

Jeff has been busily getting the pine Vmatch ready to install on the Great room ceiling.  The insulation has been installed and the staging is ready to get the ceiling finished.

Now, Jeff is wondering what to do next!  LOL!

We'll have to wait and see what Bob thinks the next step will be, but it looks to me like like paint is coming soon, but what do I know?  He's the Designer/Builder, I'm the Property Manager and we make a pretty good Team!  💞

Stay tuned for more fun!  😊

Update!

The fellas have been pretty busy for the past couple of weeks.  Bob has been drywalling and mudding and with the weather cooperating, Jeff has been getting the Vmatch ready to install in the ceilings.

In the meantime, spring is busting out all over with the trees showing a bit of green, the daffodils, tulips and forsythias are in full beautiful color.  Our hummingbirds have arrived right on time, as usual and warm weather is slowly arriving, as well.

Life is good!  Stay tuned for more news.  🌷🌷

What a difference a year makes!

On this day last year, we began to realize the beginning of our project - building a beautiful, seasonal cottage!  Our hopes were high that we would be able to begin the rental by early 2021.  However, circumstances slowed everything down considerably!

On the positive side, things are beginning to speed up a bit, but there is still so much to do. Both of the bedrooms have been drywalled, mudded and painted. Yesterday, the stairs to the loft went up, the great room has been wired and insulating is now in progress.

Drywall for the rest of the loft and the Great room should be delivered sometime next week.

In the meantime, spring is upon us and we have lots of winter cleanup to do outdoors.  The daffodils are blooming, the crocus has since gone by, the grass is greening up quickly, and my amaryllis is blooming beautifully!

We hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and getting out into the fresh air!

Stay tuned for more! 🌞🌞

Getaways!

Well, there's a lot going on inside the cottage right now and with all the tools, getting staging ready for ceilings, lumber, insulation and drywall going up, there wasn't much to photograph!  So, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite road trips.

One of the nice things about "Downeast, Maine" is the fact that we are a bit away from the crowds of the major portion of Acadia National Park.  One can head north, west or east and find so many wonderful places to hike, kayak, bike or just sit and enjoy the beautiful views.

Perfect Places In Maine For People Who Hate Crowds

Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden in Seal Harbor

The Precipice Trail, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park

This is a really strenuous hike up the mountain, so be prepared!

Lubec

This easternmost municipality in the US is the closest place to Africa in the contiguous US. You'll also find the beautiful West Quoddy Head Lighthouse here, which sits next to the Quoddy Narrows separating the US from Canada.

The ride to Greenville is wooded and beautiful.  Stunning Moosehead Lake is THE place for adventurers, free-spirits, families, and artisans looking for solitude in an unspoiled woodland.

There's just so much beauty to enjoy in Maine, whether inland or along the coast.  And, after a long, fun day, coming back to the privacy and tranquility of Acadia Woodland Cottage, sitting on the deck with feet up and listening to the crickets chirping is the icing on the cake!

We hope everyone is enjoying spring weather and sunshine! 😊😎

Moving Right Along!

Been a long, busy week for everyone and much was accomplished, but still so much to do.  The final windows arrived and were installed, giving the Great Room lots of light streaming in.

The plumbing has been installed and inspected, the furnace is up and running and most of the wiring done. Now, on to more insulation and drywall mudding!

Work has begun on the bathrooms, as well as the laundry space

Sunny days allowed for the board and batten siding to be finished.

This will be the view from the slider onto the deck.  There will be lots of grassy area for the deer to feast on!

All in all a very productive week.  Stay tuned for more fun!  😄
